And hooo did The Box light up this morning, the first it has done in 2018, in fact, just as the circus arrived in town for the WSL's third stop of the Championship Tour.

Sebass, Conner Coffin, Kolohe and Parko (the birthday boy!) took root at the Margaret River barrel magnet, seeking a few choice West Oz cylinders. And for a small bonus, Mikey Wright's been throwing himself above the lip recently, as evidenced right below at a top secret locale.

On hand to capture all you see throughout was Tom Pearsall (or @driftwoodphotography_mr, an account we love to double tap).

“This was the first day in 2018 The Box has broken,” relays my Pearsall, a West Oz staple. “It was unruly and ugly after a day of strong onshore and a large swell yesterday, and it took a few hours for anyone to decide to go out.

Remember Seabass' ride from last year? 10 points, that never-ending tube!

“It was a hit rate of about 1/10 with no guarantee of making it out once you were inside. On these days, The Box is like a Siren from Greek mythology; singing enchanting music to coax you into a perfect looking back-door entry before closing the door and shipwrecking you on nearly dry rocks.  Thankfully everyone avoided them, though Conner copped a solid one on the head in waist deep water.”
